Of all the custom lettering, type treatments and hand lettering projects I have been doing lately (42 last month!) The Freshnes has been some of my favorite. Not only do I relate to the sayings but it poses some interesting challenges getting several words to flow with each other smoothly. All in all I love being pushed, the result is always better!

This is the second piece in the series I’ve done for The Freshnes. This piece might look simple but honestly presented the most challenges. Custom type or custom lettering takes as much patience as it does creativity. The smallest adjustments to a single letter can make a huge difference in the overall piece. My objective here was a clean piece, sharp lines, simple and elegant but with a little attitude. I wont show the first attempt (FAIL) but only the finished lettering.

I recently had the opportunity to work with The Freshnes on some custom lettering. What I liked about the projects is they posed new hurtles in customizing entire sentences rather than just single words. This opened up new opportunities to create letters from scratch, combine stacked words with little tweaks and just bring harmony to the entire piece. I also liked the fact that Nes pushed back a bit wanting to reach a final piece that was distinct in it’s feel but flowed with his line. I need to update my typography secion soon. I have another 40 pieces that I finished but waiting on clients to release!

You might be getting bored with all the posts about type, typography, custom lettering, hand lettering etc etc etc BUT… It’s what I love to do (sort of a junkie here!). The unfortunate thing is I cant post 80% of what I am working on until it hits the streets and that could take months. Until then I have this, MasterCraft, Axis and Malibu type / boat wraps. If their is one thing I enjoy doing it’s custom lettering or hand lettering. The good news is the last two months I have had request after request from all types of clients large and small (no job to small!). Their is a couple things I absolutely love about what I do. The first thing is the freedom to create. Not many positions or jobs offer you the ability to express your ideas and serve up creative solutions or approaches. The second thing I love is the ability to see my work in action. The third is the people and relationships. I have worked with Nick West over at ZDecals for about 4 months now, the dude rocks and the company produces some amazing work. When I was asked to do some wraps for Master Craft I jumped at the opportunity to add some creative assistance. This is the latest collaboration between the two of us for Malibu. I offered three custom letter treatments and two were actually used on this boat. Looking forward to another challenge soon!

Lately I have been workin on a bunch of vector illustrations. Difference this time is I started workin exclusively from my own sketches rather than pictures for references. The latest addition to Los Logos came out ( a while back ) but the difference this time is that a bunch of my custom letters were chosen! This was the second year I attempted to get my typography in and was stocked to be chosen. A second plus is that they sent me two copies!
